Your message did not contain a Subject field. This is broken, I'm afraid - the Subject: line is a Required Header according to RFC822. Please remember to include a Subject field in your messages in future. If you did so the fact that it got lost probably indicates a poorly configured mail system at your site or an intervening one.

Package: resc1440.bin
Version: Debian 1.3 (bo)

I have a Micron Transport (original) P5/133 laptop. What I see is that when I
put the resc1440.bin disk in the drive a boot, it gets as far as init touching
the rc files, then the screen blanks. Actually, it doesn't blank, the
back-light turns off. This is highly weird, because I have been unable (didn't
try very hard, though) to get Linux to control the back-light on my system.
Yet the Debian install disk does it on boot...

Since APM is not built into the install kernel (so sayeth the README), I'm a
little confused as to what is causing this.

I'm willing to do some detective work, as well as try out fixes.

How far did it go in executing rc files. What were the last words?
