Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.19
I have been trying to build dpkg for an UltraSparc20.
1. The installation instructions do not describe the need for autoconf.
dpkg includes only configure.in and no configure script.
2. Running autoconf (newest release) results in
data:~/source/dpkg-1.4.0.19$ autoconf
configure.in:119: warning: AC_TRY_RUN called without default to allow cross
compiling
configure.in:120: warning: AC_TRY_RUN called without default to allow cross
compiling
configure.in:121: warning: AC_TRY_RUN called without default to allow cross
compiling
3. Running configure then fails with
data:~/source/dpkg-1.4.0.19$ ./configure
creating cache ./config.cache
./configure: syntax error at line 528: M_CONFIG_HEADER' unexpected
data:~/source/dpkg-1.4.0.19$ uname -a
SunOS data 5.5.1 Generic_103640-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2
data:~/source/dpkg-1.4.0.19$

Message #12 received at 11772-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Hi,
Newest dpkg builds on Solaris >= 2.6 (or SunOS >= 5.6), and most probably
it would build on 5.5.1. However, that support isn't important anymore,
and Wichert told me I may close this bug report.
Two dpkg longstanding bugs gone, another 50 kilobytes to go... :)
