While trying to unpack perl5 from hamm I get:

kuolema!joey(ttyp3):/tmp> dpkg-source -x /pub/debian/hamm/hamm/source/interpreters/perl_5.004.02-1.dsc
dpkg-source: error: diff patches file (perl-5.004.02.orig/debian/.ph/arpa/nameser.ph) whose directory does not appear in tarfile

At the moment only files in .../debian can be modified - no subdirectories allowed.
(Or did I miss a new dpkg-dev?)  This was 1.0.8-x

With 
ii  dpkg-dev        1.4.0.19       Package building tools for Debian Linux
I get:
