Message #5 received at maintonly@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.19
This package appears to violate Debian Policy; section 2.3.8
("Maintainer scripts") of the current Policy Manual states:
"Any necessary prompting should almost always be confined to the
post-installation script, and should be protected with a conditional
so that unnecessary prompting doesn't happen if a package's
installation fails and the postinst is called with abort-upgrade,
abort-remove or abort-deconfigure."
This bug report was produced automatically and there is a small chance
that it is erroneous. My apologies should this be the case.
Giuliano Procida.

Message #10 received at 12617@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
The dpkg.{pre, post}inst scripts are very intrincated, but they
only ask things when upgrading.
So I think this bug can be closed. Can you check it?
Thanks.

I think this is true.
> So I think this bug can be closed. Can you check it?
I checked the two files briefly and things seem OK.
Giuliano.

Some of these bugs haven't really been fixed by a NMU: some of
them are not bugs, some have been fixed by an official release and
some have been fixed by other packages. However, I think it's easier
to use the same title on all of them.
Comments:
10072 was fixed a lot of time ago
12617 is not a bug (the submitter agrees on this)
13598 and 13892 have already been fixed by base-files_1.7
16091 was probably a bug in sunsite's mirror; it's not a bug in dpkg
17732 was the "chown/lchown" bug in kernel 2.1.8x
