Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.19
If a package is placed on hold in dselect, I'd expect it to remain that
way until I removed the hold. However if I install a new version manually
using "dpkg -i ..." then the hold status is lost.

Actually, I personally prefer the way it works now. If I've put something
on hold, it was presumably because I didn't want to download the newer
version or it had conflicts I couldn't resolve. Once I've installed a
newer copy of it, my reasons for it being on hold are generally gone. It
isn't that much trouble to put it on hold again when it comes up in
dselect.

I sometimes use it for large packages which I don't want to download
everytime there is a minor change - xbooks for instance. There is
probably a better way to do this with dpkg-ftp or dftp but I havn't
investigated. If the current behaviour is preferred then that's fine with
me, but it should be documented.
