When I run dpkg-source -b, the messages I get seem to depend on how long
ago I last ran it:

The only difference between the second and third attempt is that I
waited a few minutes before running the third. If I do not wait, I
can reproduce the errors from the second attempt as often as I like.
I can also repeat the results from the first or third attempts as
often as I like, provided that I wait a few minutes before each
invocation.
There is no difference between the generated diffs except for the date
stamps inside.
My ~/main/hextype directory looks like this:
