Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.20
If I accidentally run "dpkg --install ..." as myself instead of root, I
get the following:
dpkg: `ldconfig' not found on PATH.
dpkg: `start-stop-daemon' not found on PATH.
dpkg: `install-info' not found on PATH.
dpkg: `update-rc.d' not found on PATH.
dpkg: 4 expected program(s) not found on PATH.
NB: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin.
I know that dpkg will check to see that I am root at some point. It should
do so before checking the path in order to display the correct error message.

# These bugs are being reassigned to dpkg-iwj. What this means is that
# they have been fixed in the primary dpkg contained in the potato
# archive, but have not been merged upstream. Please take the time to
# assure that your bug was actually fixed, and reassign it back to dpkg if
# it was not.
