Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: libc6
Version: 2.0.7pre1-4
If the first name server in /etc/resolv.conf is unavailable, gethostbyname will
fail instead of search the other entries.
Also, the manpage of resolv.conf mentions that it currently only searches the
first 3 servers listed in resolv.conf, this is not enough, it should be
increased to 4 at least.

Message #8 received at 21072-submitter@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
I'm not able to find a ChangeLog entry that would seem to apply to
this, however, I did find this:
1998-09-11 Ulrich Drepper <drepper@cygnus.com>
* resolv/res_init.c (res_init): Handle resolv.conf file with only
one nameserver correctly. Patch by HJ Lu.
from this, I would assume the other case was working.
