Subject: obsolete version of timezone won't remove
Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 21:07:50 -0800 (AKDT)
Package: timezone
Version: 7.48-3

I have the new version (called timezones I think) installed, but I can't
seem to remove the old version (timezones). deselect doesn't complain
when I deselect it, but when I actually try to remove it I get:

dpkg: error processing timezone (--remove):
This is an essential package - it should not be removed.

Any ideas on how to proceed from here? Thanks.

dpkg -i timezones*

dpkg will notice that it replaces the old package and actually remove it.

Bug reassigned from package `timezone' to `timezones'. Request was from jdassen@wi.leidenuniv.nl to control@bugs.debian.org. (full text, mbox, link).
