Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 17:06:04 +0200
Package: libc6-doc
Version: 2.0.7t-1

Several Functions are not documented, e.g. the resolver stuff or
ether_ntoa . My neighbor has openBSD, which has such a manpage.
maybe it's allowed to copy these manpages and add them to the debian
documentation (with changes if necessary). could be interesting for the
upstream author, too.

Could you please be more specific? "resolver stuff" isn't very clear, and
which "such a manpage" does openBSD provide and where will I find it?

In addition, it would be helpful if you could verify that this information
is also not available in the Info pages?

Thanks,

Dwarf

sorry. www.openbsd.org gives a list of mirrors (i'm useing ftp.fu-berlin.de).
/pub/unix/openbsd/mirrors/OpenBSD/src/lib/libc/net
contains ethers.3

i guess there are maybe also other manpages where glibc has the function but
not the documentation. so if you have or get bug reports, you can look there.

for ethers : "ether_" is not in glibc doc, ether_ functions are in
netinet/ether.h and are in libc.a ...

there are other undocumented functions in glibc like res_sendhookact,
but i didn't find documentation ...

if i find other examples for undocmuented+doc_available, i will mail again.

thanks for your help.

Hi,

Manpages for the pty-related functions are also missing, although they're
documented in the info files:

getpt(), grantpt(), unlockpt(), ptsname(), ptsname_r(), openpty(),
        and forkpty().

In the absence of useful results from `apropos pty', I found it
challenging to start to learn how pseudottys work.

glibc does not provide manpages, however there are info pages, and all of
these functions are documented there. Use "info libc", and search for the
particular function.

Give that these are documented (nothing says they have to be manpages) in
the glibc info pages, then this is a closed issue.

The manpages-dev package might be interested in updating it's collection
to include these (which is where the function manpages are kept).
