Subject: Netbase and perl5.005 : moving DebianNet.pm
Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1999 22:36:26 +0200
Package: netbase
Version: 3.14-1

In order to prevent problems while upgrading to perl 5.005 I suggest
that you put the DebianNet module into /usr/lib/perl5/Debian and that you add a
line « use lib '/usr/lib/perl5/Debian' » at the beginning of update-inetd. In
that way all versions of perl (using versionned directories or not) will
always find the module. And postinst script will never break because of such a
problem.

Cheers,

netstd also uses DebianNet.pm directly. If this gets changed, should I
also Conflict: netstd (<< something), and get Herbert to do up a new
netstd that Pre-Depends on netbase (>= something)?

I'm not sure off hand if any other packages use DebianNet.pm themselves.

Ok, i just see it in netstd postint, you're right. I'll file a bug
against netstd too.

> also Conflict: netstd (<< something), and get Herbert to do up a new

If you simply move the file, the conflict will be needed yes.

But I think that the simplest solution is to put the file in
/usr/lib/perl5/Debian and add a symlink in /usr/lib/perl5 ... in that way
there's no conflict needed.

Erm, I'm lost.

Obviously moving DebianNet.pm isn't a critical issue for the perl upgrade
(it having been done and everything now), but I've forgotten whether this
was a temporary solution or permanent one, and I seem to have lost the
mails discussing it.

What's the proper place for DebianNet.pm? Can it just stay where it is
forevermore?

Cheers,
aj

Yes it can stay where it is for ever. The Debian perl policy is to
always use /usr/lib/perl5 as the proper directory where to install
non-binary modules.

You can close the bug I think.

Ah, good this was what I thought.
