Where is htdig being used? If you don't come up with anything please
close the bug.

I think he's say that glimpse is non-free and being used (lists archives?)
and www.debian.org should not be using glimpse. He then offered ht://dig
as a free alternative.
This is based on the text only, I don't know anything about any of those to
know free/non-free, etc.

May mistake. I read what he wrote backwards.
Anyway, this should be reassigned against lists.debian.org

An altavista search for "htdig" OR "ht://dig" gets me 4927 hits. Assuming
that just 10% of those are sites actually using, that still amounts to
hunderds of sites.

Excuse me? Debian is about free software. Yes, we use non-free software for
the project (PGP, SSH), but only where there is no sufficiently mature free
alternative yet. ht://dig is a free (GPLed) search engine, and looks
sufficiently mature to handle the tasks we currently use glimpse for.

We use it at Cistron to index our company webpage and all the homepages
of the users. I think it works really great. Check out
http://homepage.cistron.nl/search/ , it searches through thousands
of user-sites (tens of thousands of pages) instantly.

Message #55 received at 37143-done@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Hi,
the new list search engine[1] resolves most of the open search
issues, so I would like to take the opportunity to close those that
seem to be fixed. Please don't hesitate to reopen, file new bugs
agains listarchives, or contact the listmaster if you find that
something has been marked done in error.
Solved (including complaints about the quarterly subdivisions not
working):
* #131878: search engine does not look at least at last month
it is asked
* #194834: Checkboxes to combine lists don't work as expected
* #37143: lists.debian.org should use a free search engine.
* #201739: search engine for lists has wrong default
* #204590: listarchives: default should be more inclusive
* #207572: search.html: multiple list selection fails
* #218536: Mailing list search engine can't search for numbers
* #232467: www.debian.org: mailing list search seems to miss some
items
* #236360: listarchives: search missing some messages
* #256259: listarchives: another missing search in current month
* #387011: searching lists archived yearly fails
* #388183: searching the listarchives for pentium-builder returns
zero results
* #440347: debian-security-announce not indexed for search
* #130570: Please include numbers in search index
* #159657: listarchives: Can only select a single list in list
filter
* #318174: listarchives: at least say what search terms we used
Invalidated, because they were glimpse-specific:
* #155086: doesn't find valid matches; case sensitive search gives
more matches than insensitive
* #102344: searching for "~something~" and for URLs makes glimpse
crash
* #201743: listarchives: search doesn't work as advertised
* #223976: Replacing glimpse with mnogosearch ?
* #311166: listarchives: if set Max-Lines-Per-Message == 0, get no
results at all, just empty page
Kind regards
Thomas
