Your message didn't have a Package: line at the start (in the pseudo-header following the real mail header), or didn't have a pseudo-header at all.

This makes it much harder for us to categorise and deal with your problem report; please ensure that you say which package(s) and version(s) the problem is with next time. Some time in the future the problem reports system may start rejecting such messages.

Subject: pcmcia modules fail to compile under 2.2.11 kernel
Date: Fri, 13 Aug 1999 22:55:05 -0400
Dear sir,

A new maximum physical memory size option is introduced in the 2.2.11
kernel, please see new file <asm/page_offset.h>. PCMCIA modules (from
pcmcia-cs-3.0.12) complains PAGE_OFFSET_RAW undeclaired when compiled under
the new kernel.

PAGE_OFFSET_RAW is in turn determined by user configurable options
CONFIG_1GB or CONFIG_2GB or CONFIG_3GB.

As these new options do not seem stored anywhere in the standard header
files and there is no default setting for PAGE_OFFSET_RAW, any existing
source involving kernel memory operation may fail to compile.

I work around it by defining the option in pcmcia/config.h but I feel
CONFIG_xGB should be defined in a standard header file within the kernel.

I understand that 2.2.11 kernel is not yet on the debian site, but hope that
you would look into it when the time comes.

I am running the debian potato stream by the way. It works fine even though
it is supposed to be unstable. This mail is going through the linux box
serving as firewall, running through the pcmcia ethernet and modem cards
with the 2.2.11 kernel.

Regards,

P.C. Chan

Have you tried a version of the PCMCIA CS source that is more recent
than 3.0.12? (The latest release is 3.0.14.) Looking through the most
recent sources, I think that this has been fixed.
