If you press "I" on the dselect package selection screen to get to the
mode where most of the screen is a package's description or control
information and only one package is shown in the list section, the
wrong package is usually listed.

If the highlighted line is at one of the top two packages of the list when
you press I, the display is correct. Otherwise, the second package of the
list is shown above the information for the package that was highlighted.
The latter package is the one that should be listed and to which select/
deselect/purge/etc. commands apply.
