Subject: No way to "provide" for dependencies w/ version numbers
Date: Sat, 14 Dec 1996 11:26:04 -0800
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.5

With the release of XFree86 3.2, many X clients have had their
dependencies changed to specify version numbers for xlib6 and related
packages. This is a very big problem for me: I use AcceleratedX, since
it's the only server that's accelerated for my graphics card, and I now
have no way to tell dpkg that I have a local program that provides the
right xlib6 pieces. In depisok (in depcon.c), there is an explicit test
which checks for version numbers on dependencies, and ignores any
provides if there are version numbers specified. It should be possible
to specify version numbers on provides as well as on dependencies.
