Subject: dpkg: feature suggestions
Date: Wed, 8 Jan 1997 20:07:02 +0100
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.5

 Here are some evolution suggestions:

'dpkg':
- are "contrib" and "non-free" really "sections", compared to the
other ones in Debian ?
- hierarchical sectionning would be fine (giving sections like
net/mail, net/news, games/X11, games/svgalib, games/text, etc.),
allowing to find easily an package.

'dselect':
- Tk version (with folding!) => more easily customizable via dialogs
- look at changes from installed to available version
- look at installation date, installed-date and available-date
- look at (conf)file-list
- be told when there are multiple available versions
(eg. stable and unstable); allow user to choose beween them
	(based on Changes...)
- Lacks "Newly updated" availability type
- Tell when a package is no longer available
- search for a string in a section/avail/etc. name, instead of only in
	package name

Best wishes, and keep up the good work !
