Your message didn't have a Package: line at the start (in the
pseudo-header following the real mail header), or didn't have a
psuedo-header at all.
This makes it much harder for us to categorise and deal with your
problem report; please ensure that you say which package(s) and
version(s) the problem is with next time. Some time in the future the
problem reports system may start rejecting such messages.

Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
After installing GNU utilities, that have 'md5sum' program. The package
installer 'dpkg' becomes annoying. The reason here, seems to be that 'dpkg'
is using an older version of 'md5sum' which it includes in the package,
while the GNU utilities provide a newer version of this program. Hereafter
will the 'dpkg' program give:
md5sum gave malformatted output '<the check sum from md5sum>'
Installing 'dpkg' again, thus reinstating the 'md5sum' program fixes this,
but shouldn't packages try and use the 'latest' versions of these utility
programs?

Could you tell me where you got the "latest" md5sum? The reason I
ask is that the md5sum in textutils (which is the obvious replacement)
seems to produce identical output to the one in dpkg.

This is an automated message sent to all bugs older than one year.
This bug is very old. Please take a look at it and see if you can fix it.
If it has already been fixed, please close it.
If you have problems fixing it or if you don't have the time to fix it,
please ask the people on debian-devel@lists.debian.org for help, so that
at least the oldest bugs can be solved before Debian 2.0 is released.

I can't find any "newer" md5sum. I have never been able to
reproduce this bug. Can this be closed?
I will close it shortly if I don't receive any comments.

He means the md5sum from fileutils (not included in the Debian
version, naturally).
> I have never been able to reproduce this bug.
It's very easy, simply compile the md5sum from fileutils and install
it over dpkg's version. dpkg doesn't like it, since dpkg's md5sum has
a different AUI.

Please don't close dpkg bugs. You're not the maintainer and you
clearly don't understand this one.
