Subject: Pre-Depends: + Provides: don't work
Date: Fri, 7 Feb 1997 11:30:44 +0100 (MET)
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.7

If a package pre-depends on a virtual package provided by another package
(in this case, bash, libdl1, and ldso), dselect doesn't notice this.

Since it doesn't notice this, it tries to upgrade both packages in the
same pass. Dpkg notices a dependancy conflict and fails the installation.

Package: dpkg
Essential: yes
Status: install ok installed
Priority: required
Section: base
Installed-Size: 495
Maintainer: Ian Jackson <ian@chiark.greenend.org.uk>
Version: 1.4.0.7
Pre-Depends: libc5 (>= 5.4.0-0), ncurses3.0
Description: Package maintenance system for Debian Linux
 This package contains the programs which handle the installation and
 removal of packages on your system.
 .
 The primary interface for the dpkg suite is the `dselect' program;
 a more low-level and less user-friendly interface is available in
 the form of the `dpkg' command.
 .
 In order to unpack and build Debian source packages you will need to
 install the developers' package `dpkg-dev' as well as this one.

Package: ldso

Maintainer: David Engel <david@debian.org>

 that uses shared libraries, which is just about all of them.

Package: bash
Essential: yes
Status: install ok installed
Priority: required
Section: base
Installed-Size: 760
Maintainer: Guy Maor <maor@debian.org>
