Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: boot-floppies
Version: 1.2.6
Currently, the rescue floppy does not allow serial logins. This makes
no difference for the average user. However, for a blind user, the
easiest way to control a Linux installation is often with a second
computer running a terminal emulator under DOS, connected via a serial
port. The second computer can be equipped with a speech synthesizer.
I believe this is all that is required:
diff -Nr ../boot-floppies-1.2.6-orig/scripts/rootdisk/prototype/etc/init_tab ./scripts/rootdisk/prototype/etc/init_tab
60a61,62
> T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 19200 vt100
> T1:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS1 19200 vt100
A similar addition is also needed in the /etc/inittab that comes with
the base files. However, the user can make that change himself.
(He also needs to add lines to /etc/securetty.)
Incidently, there are currently 149 subscribers to the BLINUX mailing
list, blinux-list@redhat.com, which addresses use of Linux by the
blind. I would like to see some of them try Debian.
