Re: Release-critical Bugreport for November 26, 1999

I sent this email to debian-devel, bugscan, debian-qa, debian-qa-private
and debian-private to reach as many maintainers as possible.

I hope that some of those bugs get fixed by now or I will surely do some
a NMUs if the maintainer is happy about it or not. I won't accept that
bugs like #45428 stay open for over 2 weeks without any reaction from
the maintainer.

If someone needs help to get a bug fixed, feel free to contact the QA
comitte (they get a Cc). We definitely need to decrease the number of
bugs.

On 99-11-26 BugScan reporter wrote:

Hasn't there been a bug squashing-party? I have the strange feeling,
that it had not effect, because the bug number is still too high and
this

can't be a good solution for fixing bugs. Sorry folks, but I must say,
that some of you are not aware of what RCB = Release-Criticial-Bug
really stands for.

This is an very easy to fix bug, but there hasn't been any reaction from
the maintainer since 14 days. Johnie, do you fix this within three days
or can we make a NMU?

Could someone please examine this issue and provide a solution? It seems
like the maintainer is some kind of MIA, because this one and the
prevois bug should have been fixed one month ago according to the
STRATEGY-Tag.

Someone must examine the patch and re-adjust it for the new
upstream-source.

This one needs some examination and need someone with a average
knowledge of apache.

I would suggest closing this bug.

Some of our porters for the sparc-architecture need to take a look at
this bug.

Good News, wenn will this fixed package become installed and so the bugs
be closed?

I would suggest closing this bug.

Justin, do you upload a fixed package soon or can we make a NMU for
fixing this bug?

We will open a task at the debian-qa package for this. Someone with a
good knowdlege of perl could take this task and provide us with a new
and better update-passwd

Matthias, when will you NMU bash 2.03 and close some of those bug

Well, could plese someone of the sparc-porters grab the source manually
and test if the bug has been fixed?

Can be fixed by a recompilation? Craig, can we NMU it?

Can someone examine this issue?

Gordon, has this bug been fixed by now?

I think the Team is already working on fixing this one.

Peter, can you upload now a package so that I get installed in the

Can we please remove this package then, if it's not maintained upstream

This can be fixed by a recompilation. Steve, do you will fix this now or
can we also NMU it?

Seems to be fixable, but just recompiling it. Mark, can you confirm this
and upload a fixed package?

Should be easy to fix. A first possible fix is to save the old keymap.

Should be easy to fix? Tom, when will we get a fixed version?

Same bug as above, so I will merge them.

> 51201 coolman: Broken sysstem

I think, that this is the same issue as the two bugs above.

This one shouldn't be too hard to fix, so I hope that we see a fixed
version soon.

There's patch in the BTS. Anthony, would you please apply it and upload
a fixed version? Or can we NMU it?

There's no information in the BTS about this bug.

Is this really release-critical? Can't we print a note during install
and downgrade the bug?

Alexander, do you need some help to fix this bug? Has also been the new
uþstream version, mentioned in the BTS, packaged for Debian?

Also there's no information about this bug in the BTS.

Easy to fix. Julian, when do you upload the fixed version?

And again no information available in the BTS.

Ardo, did you upload a fixed version or do you wait for a new
upstream-release?

There are different suggestion for a solution. Why hasn't been one
adopted and a fixed package uploaded?

Should be easy to fix. Jim, when will you fix it?

Seems to be easy to fix. Can we please get a fixed version or NMU it?

Seems to get fixed in the new version.

How can this be fixed?

Mark, do you see some easy solution to this bug?

Is this one really release-critical or can't the severity be lowered by
building exim with ipv4?

Should be easy to fix. Is the fix in the BTS correct, so that I can be
NMUed?

Seems that this bug is triggered by a broken dependancy.

Mark, what's the problem with the patch in the BTS or why hasn't it been
applied?

I think this one needs a examination, what's happening and how it can be
fixed.

I think, this is a bug where we need the help of the Sparc-Porters to
find a good solution for.

> Package: libapache-mod-python (main)
> Maintainer: Gregor Hoffleit <flight@debian.org>
> 48804 mod-python crashes apache

Can someone with a knowledge about python please look at this issue?

> 50418 libapache-mod-python explodes now and then

Also an issue where we need the help from people with a knowledge of
python.

> Package: libc6 (main)
> Maintainer: Joel Klecker <debian-glibc@lists.debian.org>
> 21810 libc6: rexec call dumps core with user="string" and password=NULL

Need some more examination to find a solution, that doesn't open a
security hole.

> 36584 nss' compat does not work with shadow nis

Needs examination by someone who is familar with NIS.

> 50167 libc6: Include ldd nad ldd man page, which are part of ldso.

If we don't get more information from the submitter, I would suggest
closing this bug report.

> 50311 libc6: libc6 ships binary programs: please split.

We need to discuss this issue to see if it's a bug or not, but I would
suggest lowering the severity of it.

> Package: libc6-dev (main)
> Maintainer: Joel Klecker <debian-glibc@lists.debian.org>
> 50083 libc6-dev: broken headers for sparc

Also here we need the help of our Sparc-Porters to find a good fix.

> Package: libc6.1 (main)
> Maintainer: Joel Klecker <debian-glibc@lists.debian.org>
>   47584  libc6.1: localtime() hangs on alpha

And also on this bug we need help from our Porters, but this time from
the Alpha-Team.

> 48455 libc6.1: libc6 fails to install and leaves installation broken

Do we still have this install problem? I never noticed one like this
during my last updates.

> Package: libcgi-perl (main)
> Maintainer: Manoj Srivastava <srivasta@debian.org>
> 49189 cannot purge libcgi-perl

Should be trivial to fix. Manoj, when will you upload a fixed version or
can we make a NMU?

> Package: libdb2.6-util (main)
> Maintainer: Fabrizio Polacco <fpolacco@debian.org>
> 50647 libdb2.6-util: trying to overwrite db_archive from libc6

Should also be easy to fix without much work. Fabrizzio, when do you
release a fixed version or can we NMU it?

> Package: libg++2.8.2-dev (main)

> Maintainer: Debian GCC maintainers <gcc@packages.debian.org>

Here we need the help from the M68K-Team to find the bug and a solution
for it.

> Package: libgc5 (main)
> Maintainer: Mike Goldman <whig@by.net>
> 51208 fix for sparc build

Mike, there's patch in the BTS? Can you please apply it and make a new
release or can we NMU it?

> Package: libgcj0 (main)

Who has enough time to work on this issue?

Same issue as the one above.

Can we please get a fixed version of libmagick4g-lzw out? There are two
solutions in the BTS, so please!

> 48090 libmagick4g-lzw: libmagick4g-lzw depends on non-existed library libjpegg6a

Can be fixed by just a recompilation.

> Package: libnss-ldap (main)
> Maintainer: Ben Collins <bcollins@debian.org>
> 48953 libnss-ldap: Doesn't search for groups correctly

If we don't get more information about the bug itself, I would suggest
closing it.

> Package: libpcre1 (main)
> Maintainer: Mark Baker <mbaker@iee.org>
> [REMOVE] This package can be removed if it is not fixed.
> 50046 libpcre1: does not build from source on sparc

> Package: libpgsql2 (main)
> Maintainer: Oliver Elphick <Oliver.Elphick@lfix.co.uk>
> 46690 pgl seg faults

Can this just be solved by changing the dependancies?

Did they find on the postgres-ml a solution for this problem?

> Package: libreadlineg2 (main)
> Maintainer: Guy Maor <maor@debian.org>
> 39907 lftp dumps core

Should be not too hard to fix, so when can we expect a fixed version?

> Maintainer: Takao KAWAMURA <kawamura@debian.org>
> 51183 libsufary-ruby_2 (dist=unstable)]: YAFI-bug and path problems

> Package: logcheck (main)
> Maintainer: Rene Mayrhofer <rmayr@vianova.at>
> 50994 logcheck: "["s in /etc/logcheck/logcheck.violations.ignore kill logcheck.

Is this really release-critical? Can't we just print out a message
during install about this issue and lower the severity?

> Package: lpr (main)
> Maintainer: Adam Klein <aklein@debian.org>
> 48642 lpr; lpr does not print on a remote printer
> [HELP] Should be fixed by now, someone should doublecheck

> Package: lprng (main)
> Maintainer: Craig Small <csmall@debian.org>
> 42914 [3.5.2-1.3] lprng doesn't work with networked printer

I would say, that this is a bug in magicfilterconfig and not in lprng.

> 45857 lprng: Fails to configure

If we don't get more information from the submitter, I would suggest
closing this bug report.

> 50709 lprng won't configure: error exit status 127

Seems like this one can be fixed by making a small change to the
postinst-script.

> Maintainer: Jeff Licquia <licquia@debian.org>
> [REMOVE] This package can be removed if it is not fixed.

be to fix it.

> Package: mc (main)
> Maintainer: Michael Bramer & Martin Bialasinski <mc-debian@internet-treff.uni-koeln.de>
