Oh!  So that's how it's done.  I was wondering.  I compiled apm into the
kernel, and for reasons, which I had no time to explore, I kept getting
"no apm in kernel" error messages from the various apm programs.

Well, we definitely need to get the word out on how to turn it on.  This
is not obvious.
