Chapter 1 - What's new in the Release Notes

Please note that starting with Debian GNU/Linux 3.1, we only support and document upgrading from the previous release of Debian (in this case, the upgrade from woody). If you need to upgrade from older releases, we suggest you read previous editions of the release notes.

1.1 Changes in the Release Notes

This section lists changes in the Release Notes since the original version that was published with Debian GNU/Linux 3.1r0. Minor textual corrections are omitted.

• Warning about "module mismatches" in Upgrading the kernel, Appendix A asks to abort, not to continue.

• Add installation issue with DHCP for Cobalt machines in Issue with DHCP on Cobalt machines, Section 3.1.

• Document upgrading from raidtools2 to mdadm in Upgrading from raidtools2 to mdadm, Section 4.5.2. This section may also be relevant while upgrading the kernel as part of the upgrade.

• aptitude uses a different method for registering packages that are on hold than apt-get and dselect. Properly document how hold status can be checked and set in Upgrades from previous releases, Chapter 4.
