パッケージ一覧の更新など一部のアクションは root でしか実行できません。root でない状態でパッケージ一覧を更新しようとした場合、aptitude は root になりたいか尋ねます。

「root になる」を選択すると、aptitude はプロンプトを出して root のパスワードを求めます。パスワードを正しく入力し終えると、aptitude は、その root 権限の必要なアクションを実行します。アクションが完了した後もまだあなたは root になっています。

アクション → root になる コマンドを用いるといつでも root アカウントに切り換えることが可能です。パッケージ状態に対して行った変更はすべて保存されます (しかし aptitude を終了するまで保存されるわけではありません)。

By default, aptitude will use the command su to gain root privileges. If you would like it to use some other command (such as sudo), set the configuration option Aptitude::Get-Root-Command.
