Debian Security Advisory

DLA-1350-1 qemu-kvm -- LTS security update

Date Reported:
17 Apr 2018
Affected Packages:
qemu-kvm
Vulnerable:
Yes
Security database references:
In the Debian bugtracking system: Bug 892041.
In Mitre's CVE dictionary: CVE-2018-7550.
More information:

The load_multiboot function in hw/i386/multiboot.c in Quick Emulator (aka QEMU) allows local guest OS users to execute arbitrary code on the QEMU host via a mh_load_end_addr value greater than mh_bss_end_addr, which triggers an out-of-bounds read or write memory access.

For Debian 7 Wheezy, these problems have been fixed in version 1.1.2+dfsg-6+deb7u25.

We recommend that you upgrade your qemu-kvm packages.
