Package: debian-policy
Version: 2.5.0.0
Section 3.3.4 of the policy manual still suggests the obsolete /etc/rc.boot
instead of the sysvinit standard of /etc/rcS.d as mentioned in
/usr/doc/sysvinit, man rc.boot, and lintian.

on my system (hamm>slink>potato) /etc/rc.boot is not empty.
There are the files 0setserial adjtimex console-tools gom hwtools nethack
OTOH dpkg -S /etc/rc.boot doesn't find anything.

Yes, each of the packages fails lintian see,
http://www.debian.org/lintian/reports/Tpackage-installs-into-etc-rc.boot.html.
On my slink system 'dpks -S /etc/rc.boot' gives
'setserial, hwtools, kbd, sysvinit: /etc/rc.boot'. So sysvinit is
still installing rc.boot as well, which is acceptable since it is not
banned but obsolete.

I second this, and propose that the section should be reworded as
follows:
3.3.4. Boot-time initialisation
-------------------------------
There used to be another directory, `/etc/rc.boot', which
contained scripts which were run once per machine boot. This has
been deprecated in favour of links from /etc/rcS.d to files in
/etc/init.d as described in section 3.3.1. No packages may place
files in /etc/rc.boot.

There needs to be something about the fact that rcS scripts matching
the pattern *.sh are sourced by /etc/init.d/rcS; and should not
necessarily be required to support all of the standard arguments.

Why should they not be? Which ones should they be? Anyway, this
belongs with report #33826 (cc'ing).
