It would be majorly helpful if you could be a little more detailed and tell
us which packages you needed to install to get it working.  Maybe there
is a missing dependency that should actually get fixed.

yasr should be reasonably simple to install.  The default configuration
uses eflite.  Just check /etc/yasr/yasr.conf to see what synthesizer
options you have...
