You are right about the miata disks. 

As far as the Digital PowerStorm is concerned, I heard it was not
supported.
But I just saw on
http://www.workstation.digital.com/drivers/graphics/sw4d10.htm that is
is based on a 3Dlab PERMEDIA 2 chip. Suse has contributed a driver for
this graphic chipset (probably included now in Xfree3.3.3).  
That does not mean it works now, but there is a small hope, and it
should probably be in some foreseeable future.

If X is really important for you now, or if you cannot afford spending
a lot of time on testing and such, I would still suggest using a
Matrox or another supported card instead.
