Wierd. You *are* up to date, I guess? :-) I have:

util-linux      2.9g-6.1
libc6.1         2.0.7.19981211-6
libncurses4     4.2-3
slang1          1.2.2-2

What's your $TERM ?  It happens to me with rxvt and xterm, and it's
reproducible with "ls -l /dev | more" (gives "Broken pipe" after the
first screen, due to more dying when it gets a sigsegv).
