system crashes on alpha server 7000r using smp kernel 2.2.20

 hi,

i installed debian 3.0 on a alpha server 7000r using the boot and the root floppy.
everthing works fine. then i installed the 2.2.20-smp kernel using dselect.
the machine boot, you can login and stuff, but after some seconds the machine crashes with a message like:

de4x5.c: 1613 spinlock stuck in swapper at fffffc00004b36c0(0) owner swapper at fffffc00004b36c0(0) de4x5.c: 1613

any ideas, suggestions?
