https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=37680 is now fixed, but the error message "Bad file descriptor: apr_socket_accept: (client socket)" still occurs in 2.2.6. There is another upstream bug report that is maybe related to this error message: http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=42829 But I am not sure the error message has anything to do with your problem of apache hanging after reload (which I cannot reproduce).
