Strace pointed a finger on the Shibboleth module:

22929 write(-1, "2007-09-24 21:59:13 INFO shibtar"..., 71) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
22929 lseek(-1, 0, SEEK_END) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)

And if I a2dismod shib, then the error doesn't show up on
/etc/init.d/apache2 stop anymore. It looks very much like another (or
perhaps it's the same #432729) log4cpp error striking the Shibboleth
infrastructure.

Yes.

The apache2-mpm-worker package.

I didn't, as I guess this case is not really interesting for you. If
it is, I'll be happy to provide any further detail, but otherwise I'd
rather not spam this list. Especially that the backtrace couldn't
contain much useful information now...

Thanks for the answer, and really sorry for the useless report!
