Hi all,

The Debian Astronomy Working Group is trying to package and maintain astronomy related software for the Debian/GNU operating system. We are planning a (one-day) debian-astro sprint at the DebCamp in Heidelberg, at the 14 August 2015. In Debian, "sprints" are developer meetings to work on specific parts and having fun doing so.

The main goal is to get together, to find out common issues, discuss our future path, and to work on current problems. A quick preliminary brainstorm agenda is on the Wiki

https://wiki.debian.org/Sprints/2015/Astro

* Status on Packaging
    what is there, what else do we need?
* Creation of a tasks package
* Package collections:
  - VO tools
  - Astropy affiliated packages
  - Astromatic software
  - ESO Scisoft
* Licensing issues
* How to attract new packagers? Packaging by upstream?
* Which coordination with other Distributions do we need? (Fedora etc.)

Everyone interested is welcome to take part on the Sprint, and also to provide ideas or discussion to the agenda. If you intent to come, please add your name to the wiki for for coordination.

Please feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interested. Discussion should take place in the Debian Astronomy Mailing list

https://lists.debian.org/debian-astro/

Best regards

Ole Streicher
