Backport nvidia 367.27 binary driver to Debian

Hi,

As you know NVidia Pascal GPUs are now out and more and more owners of newer hardware will get them, especially Linux gamers. ;-)

The problem is currently no driver is available for this kind of hardware. I've reached nvidian package maintainers through issue #827391 in order to report the issue, but I got the answer that while everything was ready on SVN, nothing was actually validated by FTP masters.

This is now a real issue that more and more people will face, because the only clean way to get these drivers installed is to build the packages and then install them. The recipe to build packages is there : https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#Building_newer_releases_from_SVN

However you need to do some more file tweaking in debian/control in order to get i386 drivers built on an AMD64 platform (while they're notably necessary for Steam to work). The tweaking basically consists in either removing ${shlibs:Depends] from the control file, or build the packages with pbuilder.

The 367.27 drivers work well both with GeForce 9xx and GeForce 10x0 hardware. I tested them with some games and they work fine.

So, please, could you first upload the packages to Debian experimental so no one is stuck anymore, and then put things in sid, stretch and jessie-backports ?

Not pushing these drivers at least in stretch would be a great issue since NVidia Pascal hardware will be quite frequent at that time.

Thanks a lot
