Package: boot (?)

(Don't know if that's the right package, AFAIK I'm nowhere near installing
packages yet).

My problem is that the system crashes instead of booting Linux. Here's the
hardware description:

architecture: i386
model: Slot 1 VIA693/133 ATX Mainboard with Intel Pentium II/400 MHZ
       (AWARD Bios)
memory: 64 MB
cd-rom: TEAC FD235 ATAPI
harddisk: IBM DJNA-351520 UIDE 15.2 GB
video: ATI Graphics RAGE FURY 16 MB

The problem: No matter how I try to boot the system (from CDROM, via
LOADLIN or diskettes), the computer reboots after printing
"Loading linux....". No more messages or anything. I tried different boot
parameters (ramdisk, hdb=cdrom etc.) with no difference. Probably it has
to do with BIOS setups (what else?), but I can't figure it out.

Everything works fine under DOS, so it doesn't look like defective
hardware (the computer is new).

Thank you for any help!

Daniel Haude

The version of the boot-floppies from slink used syslinux 1.42. A lot
of computers have a hard time booting from that version of syslinux.

We're pretty sure this is fixed in the newer syslinux's provided in
the potato distribution. Therefore, it should be fixed in the potato
boot-floppies. Therefore, we are closing this bug. If you wish to
test the potato (unstable) boot-floppies, please do. We can reopen
this bug if you still experience it.
