Art, You need to get and burn a "netinst" CD from
http://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/7.9.0/powerpc/iso-cd/
*not* the DVD that I originally pointed you to.
And yes, *do* use your MacOS-X machine for the download and burning. It's *way* easier than any of the Linux burning software!
