The new boot floppies for Debian 2.2 will write the network configuration
to /etc/network/interfaces instead of /etc/init.d/network. The network is
then configured using the ifup command from netbase which can use any
program to set up the interfaces and routes. It is very simple to make ifup
use ip instead of ifconfig/route if that becomes necessary in the future.
