We have some /var/spool/mail directories and some are symlinks. I know
at least one was symlink for exactly that reason. And on top of that,
we don't even use /var/spool/mail anymore except on some admin machines.
Some use maildir, some Mailbox. It is simply impossible to keep
everything up to current snuff all the time.
