We shouldn't have backward combatability. I'm still using the slink
version of gdb (since the gdb maintainter broken Ada support and refused
to let anyone create a gdb-ada package.) I will still be using this until
the problem is fixed - _hopefully_ before woody is released. Besides 
people using specific slink packages, there's probably some people
who will do partial upgrades to potato. We shouldn't break those packages,
if there's an option.
