Bug#59748: general: xauth in woody is severely broken as of 3/5/2000
Package: general
Version: 20000306
Severity: important
xauth simply appears extremely confused. Trying to ssh in yields stuff like
/usr/X11/bin/xauth: unable to open tmp file "/home/dir/.Xauthority-n"
/usr/X11/bin/xauth: unable to write authority file
/home/dir/.Xauthority-n
Doing an 'xauth add' first creates the .Xauthority file but then apparently
just spits out the bytes to stdout:
<griffon>KeyserSoze-pts/8[13]~$ xauth add host.name:12.0
MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 4f9611d2893df442cd1725aedc644ff5
cØþA[a12qMIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1oOpÒiffon>KeyserSoze-pts/8[14]~$
Replacing the xauth binary with one from Redhat 6.0 (or presumably any other
distro) fixes it.
