Oddly enough, I got this too -- but only on my laptop (which is rarely
connected to any networks).

I tracked it down as far as noticing that the xdm auth file (some wierd
name in /var/lib/xdm/authdir/) had keys for display #ffff# (I think it
was four "f"s, but I'm not sure).  Then I decided that I didn't really
need xdm on my laptop and I purged it (so I'm probably not going to be
much help in isolating this problem).

[I didn't file a bug report because I didn't know that this wasn't
something I'd done to my configuration.  That, and I was too impatient
to try to figure out whether I'd read all the relevant documentation.]
