Let me tell you something which happened with me. I was supposed to do a
debian install during a LUG meet and I had the slink CD's with me. ( the first 2.1 )
And as I go to the LUG meet, I get an Athlon 500 Mhz. When I put the Debian CD, it won't boot !!
Now what ?? RH 6.0 and RH 6.1 installs fine, but I am supposed to show a Debian install.
This was because the kernel on 2.1 won't boot on an Athlon ( even RH 5.2 wouldn't boot )
I am not here to drive a point, but just a thought.

Perhaps Debian is concerned more about technical excellence rather than
ease of use by breaking software. In the former we may excel.  In the
latter we have to concede the field to Microsoft. Guess where I want to go
today?
