You don't have access to change dinstall on auric, maybe, but you should
be able to write a patch to dinstall or apt anyway. dinstall is in CVS as:

	CVSROOT: :pserver:anonymous@cvs.debian.org:/cvs/ftpmaint
	modules: dinstall, masterfiles

Apt's source is available on the mirrors, or in CVS (although I'm not
sure of the CVSROOT for apt offhand).
