Well, I was thinking more in the future, as I say, it is for woody, and the
new bridge is already on the latest kernels, at least in kernel 2.4 test1,
without any patch needed to get it working.

There are patches to get the new bridge code working on 2.2.14 and 15, and
also to add fw (ipchains) to it. But this has nothing to do with
bridge-utils (brctl), which, as I was telling you, is already working with
some standard (unpatched) kernels and doesn't have anything to do with the
firewall, not even if it covers the bridge.

> Will the respective kernel-patch packages also be built?

Well, I'm not building them, but maybe someone else wants to.

I think the bridge on standard 2.2.15 does quite well, in a lot of cases.
And about the patch to have ipchains firewalling on the bridge forwarding,
thus violating the OSI model :-) it is said on the FAQ that as of Feb 5 it
was still beta. Maybe it is not beta anymore, in fact I know production
places using them without any problems, but...

So, I prefer to wait till all this gets to a standard kernel through the
usual way, and not to be responsable for pushing people to using non
standard patches on their stable standard kernels.

However, if they do get this patches on the stable kernels, or use a
development kernel wich already has the new bridge code, they can use the
bridge-utils package to configure it.

Regards...
