I liked an idea proposed earlier, which was basically to separate
"application" programs, which generally change rapidly, are not involved in
complex dependency situations, and are primarily maintained upstream, from
library packages and Debian infrastructure, and to release them on a faster
cycle. This requires a lot of work though, and probably isn't practical.
Another idea might be ajt's "testing" distribution. From what I've heard,
that has a lot of promise for alleviating some of the problems; I'm interested
to see what happens when it's integrated into the archives (I've heard this
will happen after the woody release?) I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up
approximating the above behavior anyway, in which case the problem might be
solved.
I think we've tried the "short cycle" thing already; trying something new
seems like a good idea..
