No, your host name is illegal. DNS host names may not contain any
underscores.
The only thing new about this rule is that more programs are beginning to
enforce it, it has been there from day one.
And the reason that programs are beginning to enforce it is that it is a
security risk. Illegal chars in host names (yes, even underscores) can be
used to sabotage software that doesn't expect them. Such software exists.
You might want to read the RFC in question. It should be in the doc-rfc
package. (If it's not there, file a bug.)
