At least md5sums would be much better managed by dpkg:
For packages using debmake, the debstd call has always to be just before
"dpkg --build", and this means that in debian/rules, after debstd
work, you can not change anything at all, or md5sums will not be ok.
That's why I think that dpkg should ideally be in charge of generating
these md5sums at build time, and not debstd or any other tool.
