Nah. 2D rendering is not that difficult a problem for today's CPUs.
Many of them do passable real-time 3D, and that is much harder.
Optimizing 2D rendering is a well-documented process, it doesn't
take any secrets known only to Adobe.
The GhostScript author is under contract to put the Display PostScript
features into the GPL-ed version of GhostScript. He's working on it now.
The main problem with GNUStep is the speed of development. It looks as if
GNOME will be ready much sooner.
