What the *beep* is the state of netpbm anyway? Is it orphaned, or what?

FWIW: I (re-)compiled it a few months ago without problems for libc6, so
      that's not the problem.
      
IIRC somebody promised to sort out the GIF-programs and to filter out the
programs with unclear copyright conditions (are there any?) and to put the
resulting package into main.
