When I first started with Debian, I had no end of trouble with smail.
Since I'd come from RedHat, and Slackware before that, I was "familiar"
(in the sense I could get it to work, I'm no guru) with sendmail, so I
used that.  Soon, I began to be concerned about all the sendmail
security issues, so I started to use exim.

I wouldn't claim to understand the internals of exim, so far, I haven't
had to.  I've installed it, and it works.  It's been that simple for me.

I'm all for exim as the default mailer, though I seem to recall this
conversation before.  Wasn't the issue something to do with UUCP?
