And use the defaults so enter will leave it as is on upgrade of the package. 
This in the init.d script would be nice:

# Uncomment next line to disable the sshd daemon
#exit 0

or something like that.  Of course, the postinst can find the default with
grep and change it with sed and the comment will let the user change it
without problems.
